Pune Warriors vs Deccan Chargers Highlights | IPL 5 | 26th April | 2012

Posted by sahill786 at 9:24 AM 0 Comments
DC VS PW cricket highlights IPL season 5. Pune Warriors vs Deccan Chargers Highlights IPL 5 2012 at Pune. Indian Premier League Cricket Highlights 2012 Match 35.

Warriors will be relieved to see Manish Pandey grab his chance at the top of the order and make some runs. With Jesse Ryder, Robin Uthappa and Steven Smith already in good form, their batting appears balanced. Bowling-wise, Alfonso Thomas is an automatic choice and that opens up the slot for the fourth foreign player. Luke Wright didn’t get a chance with bat in the last game, so he might be persisted with.

For Chargers, the batting needs to come together fairly soon. Apart from Shikhar Dhawan, who has scored 208 runs, no one else has even managed 100 runs in the tournament yet. Kumar Sangakkara and JP Duminy are more than capable of scoring big. Cameron White has not looked comfortable this season, which means Daniel Christian could be back. Chargers’ bowling has looked sharp whenever Dale Steyn has bowled, but there has been a lack of support at the other end. Batting and bowling problems aside, Chargers’ coach Darren Lehmann will hope the fielders hold on to whatever comes their way.

Dale Steyn has fought a lone battle on the field for Chargers and picked up nine wickets at an average of 13.77. The quality of the opposition has always fired him up. What he needs is a bit of support from the other end.
Alfonso Thomas’ figures in the two games that he has played stand at 6-0-36-3. These six overs have all been bowled at Delhi Daredevils’ batsmen. Against a misfiring Chargers batting line-up, he could be potentially more dangerous than Steyn.

Royal Challengers v Super Kings, IPL 2012, Bangalore

Posted by sahill786 at 9:21 AM 0 Comments
IPL 5: CSK, RCB share points after wash-out.
Bangalore: The return leg match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings was called off without a single ball being bowled. The two on-field umpires Sudhir Asnani and Billy Doctrove abandoned the match at 11 pm as persistent downpour played a spoilsport.

Both CSK and RCB got a point each from the game and have nine points from eight matches. With points split, CSK moved up to the third spot, while Bangalore are placed fourth in the nine-team table. Earlier, umpires Doctrove and Asnani inspected the pitch twice at 7.45 pm and 8.15 pm and decided to start a full 20-over match at 9 pm.

Shortly before the game was due to begin, though, it began to rain again. Through the evening its intensity lessened at times, giving the spectators hope, before it picked up again. The match was eventually abandoned at 11 pm local time. It was still raining. The cut-off for a five-over match was 11.20 pm.
It was the second washout of IPL 2012, after the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers had met a similar fate at Eden Gardens last night.

Kolkata Knight Riders v Deccan Chargers, IPL 2012, Kolkata

Posted by sahill786 at 10:01 AM 0 Comments
Heavy rain hands Deccan their first point

The KKR Vs DC match at the Eden Gardens was abandoned at around 10:25 PM IST as the ground was heavily waterlogged. The only dry part of the ground was the pitch but the outfield although being covered had taken a heavy beating. With the match being called off, Deccan Chargers have finally avoided a defeat to collect their maiden point of the IPL 5.

Apart from the outfield getting waterlogged, a makeshift wooden structure for security personnel also came apart, injuring three people. "There was a temporary structure housing security [that was] broken due to heavy rains and strong winds. There were three minor injuries," Biswaraup Dey, the Cricket Association of Bengal joint secretary, told ESPNcricinfo.

The structure was located in front of the J block at the ground, to the left of the club house/pavilion. Out of the injured, reportedly two were policemen and the third was a spectator.

Pune Warriors and Delhi Daredevils have had a good look at each other, having played a high-octane game on Saturday. Warriors came back from two straight losses to post what was in the end a comfortable victory, led passionately by Sourav Ganguly. Daredevils, the team to beat so far this season, were in the game when Virender Sehwag and Kevin Pietersen set the Kotla alight during five overs of ruthless domination in a big chase, but were shut out once they fell.

Delhi Daredevils vs Pune Warriors Highlights, IPL 5 | 21st April 2012.

DD VS PW cricket highlights IPL season 5. Pune Warriors vs Delhi Daredevils Highlights IPL 5 2012 at Delhi. Indian Premier League Cricket Highlights 2012 Match 27.
One of the concerns for Warriors is the form of their captain, Sourav Ganguly, who has scored only 85 runs this season. In Chennai, he faced 14 deliveries from the slow bowlers, his perceived area of strength, to score eight runs. He fell to left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati, managing to get the ball as far as mid-off. Against Daredevils, he won’t have the luxury of facing much spin. Expect Virender Sehwag to unleash his fast bowlers on Ganguly.
Ashish Nehra returns to his original home ground and his experience of playing at Kotla and with Sehwag will be important when Warriors devise their plans. Nehra made a good comeback in the previous match, picking up two wickets, after his horror last over in Bangalore.
Shahbaz Nadeem is flourishing under Sehwag. He has picked up five wickets in the last two matches while bowling at an economy of four. Nadeem’s form has ensured that Daredevils haven’t missed Roelof van der Merwe, allowing them to play Ross Taylor in his place.
After losing a tight contest against Chennai Super Kings on Thursday night, Pune Warriors have flown two-and-a-half hours north to Delhi for their third consecutive away game. Warriors made an impressive start in the tournament with three wins out of four, but are now showing signs of homesickness. They have lost three consecutive away games and slipped to the fourth position after being on top for a while. That they are confronting a red-hot Delhi Daredevils team doesn’t make their task any easier.

Chennai Super Kings vs Pune Warriors Highlights | IPL 5 | 19th April | 2012

Posted by sahill786 at 1:13 PM 0 Comments
Chennai Super Kings 164 for 5 (du Plessis 58, Badrinath 57, Samuels 3-39) beat Pune Warriors 151 for 7 (Mathews 27, Kulasekara 2-10) by 13 runs.

Warriors have injury worries of their own. Ashok Dinda* impressed with his economical last over in their last game against Royal Challengers but, on the down side, also picked up a side strain in the match. That means he could miss this game. Also, Warriors have had only a day to recover from that loss. There, their bowlers tightened the noose in the first ten overs, giving away only 63, but lost the plot especially in the final over.
With 21 to defend, the bowling team would always back itself but AB de Villiers and Saurabh Tiwary manufactured their own luck and pulled off a thriller. Warriors’ batting looks settled, with their openers Jesse Ryder and Robin Uthappa scoring a fifty each. However, Sourav Ganguly is due for a bigger score, with an average of 12.20 in five games.

The match will be Sourav Ganguly’s 50th appearance in the IPL. Ganguly has scored 1142 runs in the tournament so far. However, only 111 have come till now in this season. Amid questions over his fitness and form, Ganguly could find Super Kings’ spin-heavy bowling attack to his liking.

With 171 runs in five games, Faf du Plessis, is the leading run-scorer for Super Kings. He has been solid at the top of the order and was the Man of the Match against Royal Challengers, with his 71 off 46 balls keeping his team in the hunt in their tall chase of 206.

For the third time in as many seasons, Chennai Super Kings have got off to a slow start in the competition. They have three defeats from five games, with their two victories coming against teams placed lower than them in the points table. It could have been worse though. The heist they pulled off against Royal Challengers Bangalore should have boosted their morale. They are back at home in the return match against PuneWarriors, their previous opponents.

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Kings XI Punjab Highlights | IPL 5 | 18th April | 2012

The slow and turning Kolkata pitch has worked against them twice in three games now; even in the third match, they had to work hard to get past Rajasthan Royals. A change of venue and wicket would be welcome for the visitors. However, the Kings XI medium-pacers, led by Dimitri Mascarenhas, proved difficult to get away on the Mohali pitch against Pune Warriors.

Gautam Gambhir was livid after the loss to Kings XI in Kolkata, saying that his batsmen needed to play “intelligent cricket.” Strong decisions would be taken unless players started performing, Gambhir said. Gambhir hasn’t exactly done that himself so far, apart from a 64 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. That innings set up Knight Riders’ first win of the season after consecutive losses.

Kings XI Punjab v Kolkata Knight Riders

Posted by sahill786 at 10:25 AM 0 Comments
Kolkata Knight Riders cruise to 8-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab.

Kolkata Knight Riders 127 for 2 (Gambhir 66*) beat Kings XI Punjab 124 for 7 (Gilchrist 40*, Lee 2-26, Narine 2-24) by eight wickets.

Kolkata Knight Riders eased to an 8-wicket win with 21 balls to spare against hosts Kings XI Punjab at Mohali. It was a one-side contest at the PCA Stadium after the visitors had restricted the Kings XI Punjab to 124 for 7. KKR have picked up their third victory of the tournament playing six games so far.

Batting first after winning the toss, Kings XI Punjab lost their momentum when Skipper Adam Gilchrist had to retire hurt after pulling his hamstring while completing a single in the 6th over. The hosts then stuttered losing the key wickets of Shaun Marsh and David Hussey without causing much damage to find themselves at 87 for 4 in the 15th over. Gilchrist returned to the crease in the 17th over to finish at an unbeaten 40 from 30 balls with 3 fours and a six. His side struggled to get any big overs to end with a below par 124 for 7. Brett Lee and Sunil Narine took two wickets each for KKR.

It was an easy run chase for KKR with Skipper Gautam Gambhir scoring a fluent 66* from 44 balls with 7 fours and a six. Jacques Kallis finished the match with him on an unbeaten 30 from 23 balls with 2 fours and a six. Gambhir got the Man of the Match award for his 66*.
None of the Kings XI batsmen could bat through. Adam Gilchrist kept the momentum going with a couple of boundaries through the on side, but pulled a hamstring while completing a quick single. He had to retire, and his untimely departure in the sixth over dented the run-rate.

Kings XI were going along at 7.50 but post-Gilchrist, it had declined to as low as 5.93. The Knight Riders bowlers didn't allow any big partnerships to develop, nothing higher than 24.

Hosts RCB clinched a last ball thriller over Pune Warriors which was set up beautifully by a whirlwind knock by Chris Gayle. Chasing 183 from 20 overs, the match turned on its head when Chris Gayle took leggie Rahul Sharma for five sixes in a row in the 13th over! Just when it was raining sixes from Gayle, a yorker from Ashish Nehra cut short his innings. Gayle settled for a score of 81 which came in 48 balls with 4 fours and 8 sixes.

The Pune Warriors fought their way back after Gayle was dismissed with RCB at 127 for 4 in 15.4 overs. The pair of Saurabh Tiwary and AB de Villiers was left with the near impossible task of getting 21 runs off the final over to be bowled by Ashish Nehra. The first ball was just a single and the second ball was somehow a boundary in an attempted paddle scoop from AB de Villiers. The third ball disappeared over long on for a six to make it 10 runs from 3 balls. AB de Villiers swept the fourth ball all the way over fine leg for a stunning six but in the very next ball lost the strike with a single to mid wicket. That left Saurabh Tiwary a tough equation of finding 3 runs from the final ball off the match! Tiwary held his nerve and smashed Nehra to the right of long on for a boundary to clinch the victory!

Saurabh Tiwary got 36* from 23 balls with a four and 2 sixes while AB de Villiers played a blinder with 33* from 14 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes. The Man of the Match award went to Chris Gayle for his destructive knock.

IPL 5: Kings XI Punjab look to build on winning momentum against Kolkata Knight Riders

Posted by sahill786 at 3:14 PM 0 Comments

MOHALI:
Their campaign back on track after back-to-back victories, Kings XI Punjab would look to build on the winning momentum when they clash with Kolkata Knight Riders at their home turf in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday.

After two initial losses, KXIP bounced back with two consecutive victories -- one at home against Pune Warriors and the other against Wednesday's opponents at the Eden Gardens just two days back.

Having beaten the same opponents at their home bastion, though with a narrow two-run margin, KXIP would start Wednesday's match at the PCA Stadium with more confidence while the Knight Riders would look to make it even score.

Both sides have some things in common as each had to taste two losses in as many games at the beginning before bouncing back.

Like Kings XI (four points from four matches), the Knight Riders (four points from five matches) went on to win the next two games before losing their fifth game.

Another thing the two teams share is the inconsistent form of their top-order batsmen. That includes Kings XI skipper Adam Gilchrist, who made five in the previous match, and is yet to hit a big knock.

His Australian compatriot Shaun Marsh also disappointed in the match against KKR, making just one run. The batting hero of last year's edition Paul Valthaty has failed to impress so far and did not play the last match.

However, Mandeep Singh looked in good form and David Hussey's presence in the last game has bolstered the batting, with bowlers Piyush Chawla and Bipul Sharma showing they too can play some useful knocks.

Whether former Pakistani all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, who according to Gilchrist had been given a visa last week, features against KKR or not remains to be seen.

Kings XI bowling attack has been improving as the tournament progresses. Though Praveen Kumar has not been a wicket-taking bowler, but he has done the job of containing the batsmen well.

Englishman Dimitri Mascarenhas has also been doing a decent job while medium pacer Harmeet Bansal has been bowling quite intelligently and was instrumental in the win his side tasted in the last match. Young Baroda spinner Bhargav Bhatt and all-round abilities of leg-spinner Piyush Chawla will also come handy for the Punjab team.

For the Knight Riders, too much dependence has been put on the top order, including captain Gautam Gambhir and experienced South African campaigner Jacques Kallis and it's time for others to step up and be counted.

Gambhir had laid the blame on his middle-order batsmen for his side's loss to Kings XI after restricting them to 134, saying it's time they shoulder more responsibility.

As against Kings XI who won their lone home match so far, KKR have managed to win only one game out of three they have played so far at their home ground in Kolkata.

Yusuf Pathan, Manoj Tiwary, Manvinder Bisla and Dutch all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate have the capability to trouble Kings XI bowlers and the team will be hoping they turn the tables against Kings XI.

It will be interesting to see how KKR's young West Indian spinner Sunil Narine and Bangladeshi spinner Shakib Al Hasan bowl on the Mohali track, known for its bouncy nature.

Narine impressed all with his five-wicket haul against Kings XI and it will be interesting to watch how he is treated by the home side batsmen on Wednesday.

In the last match played on April 12 between Kings XI and Pune Warriors, pacers had dominated, with the home side's Dimitri Mascarenhas claiming five wickets.

The conditions in Mohali last week had been rainy and overcast and similar weather continued to prevail till Tuesday and Wednesday's weather forecast also predicts cloud cover, with possibility of a spell of rain.

Chennai Super Kings v Royal Challengers Bangalore, IPL 2012

Posted by sahill786 at 10:59 AM 0 Comments
Chennai Super Kings 208 for 5 (Du Plessis 71, Dhoni 41, Murali 3-21) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 205 for 8 (Gayle 68, Kohli 57, Bollinger 3-24) by five wickets.
1st Inning RCB Score: 205/8 (20 Overs)
2nd Inning CSK Score: 208/5 (20 Overs)
Result: Chennai Super Kings won by 5 Wickets
Man of the Match: F du Plessis (csk)
Points: Chennai Super Kings 2, Royal Challengers Bangalore 0

IPL 5 comes to life as Chennai Super Kings pull off shock victory!

The IPL 5 came to life as Chennai Super Kings pulled off an incredibly miraculous victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore! CSK went onto chase down an imposing target of 206! It was a final ball victory as Ravindra Jadeja, the million dollar boy for CSK got a thick edge to thirdman off R Vinay Kumar to win the match with a boundary.

CSK were certainly out of the game needing 43 runs to win from the final two overs! Surprisingly Daniel Vettori threw the ball to part-timer Virat Kohli who was taken for 4, 6, 4, 6, 2 and a six by Albie Morkel in the penultimate over! CSK needed a manageable 15 runs to win from the final over and R Vinay Kumar wasn’t good enough to stop that with his medium pace. Vinay Kumar spoilt it for RCB by slipping in a beamer to Dwayne Bravo which was taken for a boundary and the extra ball as a result of that was slashed one handed over thirdman for a flat six by the same batsman!
CHENNAI: Albie Morkel, the most capped player in IPL, turned what looked like a lost match for Chennai into a dramatic win at Chepauk on Thursday.

The heroes for CSK in the run chase were Faf du Plessis with 71 from 46 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes, Skipper MS Dhoni with 41 (from 24 balls with a four and 2 sixes), Dwayne Bravo with 25* (from 15 balls with 2 fours and a six) and Albie Morkel with his clinical 28 (from 7 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes). The CSK batsmen ensured that Muralitharan’s great bowling spell of 4-0-21-3 went in vain! Faf du Plessis was given the Man of the Match award for his 71.
Albie Morkel ransacked 28 runs off the first six balls he faced - the 19th over - to pull off an incredible heist for Chennai Super Kings, the second highest successful chase in the IPL. Pursuing 206, Super Kings needed 43 off 12 balls and Royal Challengers Bangalore would have thought the match safe, only for Morkel to shatter the notion by savaging Virat Kohli's over.

Morkel launched three sixes, two fours and ran a two, to leave Super Kings with 15 to get in the last over. Although he was caught on the boundary, and Super Kings needed 14 off four balls, Dwayne Bravo was on hand to finish it off, helped by a no-ball and a full toss from Vinay Kumar. It was a compelling finish to an innings that had its platform laid by aggression from Faf du Plessis and innovation from MS Dhoni, who promoted himself to No. 4, but until that rocket-fueled thrust from Morkel, Super Kings had been behind for 38 overs.
During Royal Challengers' innings, Mayank Agarwal had performed a similar role to Du Plessis, attacking at the start. He initially eclipsed Gayle, peppering the off side with powerful shots, lofting the ball over mid-off and timing it sweetly through covers. Agarwal ushered Royal Challengers to the first half-century score inside five overs this season.

Unlike du Plessis, however, Agarwal did not build on his platform and top-edged a slower bouncer from Morkel to mid-on. He had done enough though for Gayle and Kohli to build a skyscraper on. Both scored half-centuries in contrasting styles. Gayle gathered runs with power while Kohli did it with placement and timing. Their partnership grew to the highest of this IPL but neither of them survived until the end of the innings, from where they may have been able to launch the kind of onslaught Morkel did, and break the game.
