In the final on Wednesday (today), Barisal will face Dhaka Gladiators, who overcame scary Khulna Royal Bengals after a tough battle in the other semifinal. Shehzad hit six sixes and 12 fours in his 49-ball 113 not out as Barisal reached 189, past the target of 185 runs, in just 16 overs. He and skipper BJ Hodge made 103 runs for the first wicket within the first eight overs, setting a solid base for the chase. Hodge scored 33 off 23, striking two sixes and three fours, before he was bowled by Saqlain Sajib.

Shehzad found another good partner in P Mustard who hit 33 off 20 balls with the help of six fours. They pushed the total to 177 before Mustard fell to Shabbir Rehman in the 15th over. Mohammad Sami, who had 17 wickets from previous 10 games, failed to increase his tally as he gave away 30 runs in his three overs. Seasoned allrounder Abdul Razzaq was hammered for 26 in his only over.

Ahmed Shazed Shines in 1st semi-final: Barisal Burners

1st semi-final: Barisal Burners v Duronto Rajshahi at Dhaka, Feb 28, 2012
Ahmed Shehzad acknowledges the applause after completing his hundred, Barisal Burners v Duronto Rajshahi, BPL, 1st semi-final
Barisal Burners 189 for 2 (Shehzad 113*) beat Duronto Rajshahi 184 for 6 (Ervine 82, Mushfiqur 58, Arafat 3-30) by eight wickets

A master-class in big-hitting from Ahmed Shehzad put the unlikely semi-finalists, Barisal Burners, in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20. They beat the in-form Duronto Rajshahi by eight wickets, with ridiculous ease. Shehzad, the Pakistan opener, struck an unbeaten 49-ball 113, guiding the steep 185-run chase and giving the slowly-growing crowd a lot to cheer about at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Man-of-the-match Shehzad hit six sixes, including four in a row off Abdul Razzaq (who conceded 26 in that over), and a dozen boundaries in his whirlwind innings - his hundred was the fourth fastest in all Twenty20 cricket. He added 103 runs in 7.5 overs for the first wicket with Brad Hodge, who made 33 off 23 balls with three fours and two sixes. Then, Shehzad added 74 runs for the second wicket with Phil Mustard, who also made 33.
It was entirely Shehzad's day as he also survived two dropped chances on 23 (at midwicket by Sabbir Rahman) and 71 (at deep-square leg by Taijul Islam). In fact, Hodge also got a few lives in an un-Rajshahi like display out on the field. The ease with which Barisal won was demonstrated by the fact that they cruised home with 24 balls to spare.
Earlier, Rajshahi overcame a first-over burst from Yasir Arafat, to make 184 for 6. Arafat, the Pakistan seamer, removed Shahzaib Hasan, Junaid Siddique and Marlon Samuels in the very first over - Shahzaib miscued a pull and was caught at mid-on, Junaid was bowled and Samuels adjudged lbw to a ball seemingly headed down the leg side.
Rajshahi captain Mushfiqur Rahim and Zimbabwe's Sean Ervine led the revival with a 110-run fourth-wicket stand. Mushfiqur made 58 off 33 balls with six fours and three sixes, while Ervine made 82 off 61 balls (eight fours and three sixes). After Arafat backed up his early burst with the run-out of Mushfiqur at a crucial time, Razzaq put the finishing touches to the innings, slamming 32 off 19 balls.

Bangladesh Premier League: PCB contacts Bangladesh board

Posted by sahill786 at 9:16 AM 0 Comments
KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has contacted its Bangladeshi counterparts following the arrest of a Pakistani citizen over suspicion of spot-fixing during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Sajid Khan, a Karachi resident, was questioned by Mirpur police after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials noticed ‘his suspicious movements’ during the tournament. The PCB, which has issued NOCs to several Pakistani players for the event, was alarmed at the development.
“We’ve sought details from the BCB,” a PCB official told The Express Tribune. “Many Pakistanis are featuring in the event and we’re concerned for them. We’ll follow the matter closely until its conclusion.”
Meanwhile, one player has been called into a hearing by the BPL on Monday in the aftermath of Khan’s arrest, according to ESPNcricinfo. It is understood that the security officers found the bank account number of a Chittagong Kings’ player and the e-mail address of another who is playing for the Dhaka Gladiators in Khan’s mobile inbox.
The ongoing tournament had earlier come under suspicion when former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza claimed that he was approached by a former cricketer to help in spot-fixing.
Sami destroys Dhaka
Meanwhile, Pakistan fast-bowler Mohammad Sami produced a brilliant show with remarkable figures of five for six to help Duronto Rajshahi register a three-wicket win over the Dhaka Gladiators.
Darren Stevens (28) and Nazimuddin (26) had shared a 52-run third wicket partnership before Sami ripped through the line-up as Dhaka were dismissed for 116.
In reply Rajshahi were reduced to 80 for six before Mushfiqur Rahim (40) produced a captain’s knock to guide his team home. Despite the defeat, Dhaka qualified for the semi-finals of the event, while Rajshahi have already made it to the last-four.
Elsewhere, Khulna Royals Bengal and the Barisal Burners completed the semi-final line-up after the former whipped the Sylhet Royals by 69 runs.
Dwayne Smith starred with a 73-ball 103 to fire the Bengals to 186 for two, hitting six maximums in his match-winning knock. Scott Styris was the lone wicket-taker for Sylhet as their bowlers wilted under the assault launched by Smith and Herschelle Gibbs (41).

Dwayne Smith hundred helps Khulna

Khulna Royal Bengals 186 for 2 (Smith 103*, Gibbs 41)

beat Sylhet Royals 117 (Tanvir 26*) by 69 runs

Dwayne Smith scored the third hundred of the Bangladesh Premier League, setting up an easy win for Khulna Royal Bengals against Sylhet Royals in Mirpur, in the tournament's final group match. The victory places Khulna at No. 2 on the points table, meaning they will play the third-placed Dhaka Gladiators in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
Khulna was asked to bat and faced an early set-back, losing opener Shivnarine Chanderpaul early. From there on, though, they dominated, first through Herschelle Gibbs - who made 41 off 28 - and then Smith. Smith, batting at No 3, finished the innings unbeaten on 103 off 73 balls with six fours and six sixes, splitting his West Indies team-mate Chris Gayle's tournament-record scores of 101 not out and 116.

Another Fixer From Pakistan

One player has been called into hearing by the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and ICC Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) officials on Monday after a man was arrested the previous night for his suspected involvement in fixing in the BPL.

Sajid Khan, a Pakistani citizen, was approached by Chittagong Kings officials during their game against Barisal Burners at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday evening. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) security staff stopped him near the players' zone, which he was trying to access.

The BCB security chief, Col (rtd) Mesbahuddin Serniabat, told New Age that the BCB had kept an eye on Sajid since the matches held in Chittagong, and finally captured him on Sunday. "His movement was very suspicious and we followed him from Chittagong," he said, adding that they had immediately taken him to the ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit official before handing him over to the Mirpur police, who were supposed to raid the man's hotel room.

It is understood that the security officers found the bank account number of one player of the Chittagong Kings and the e-mail address of another who is playing for the Dhaka Gladiators in Sajid's mobile inbox.
"He [Sajid] has been handed over to the police so the investigation is now in their hands," BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said. "We are happy to have caught him though it is certain that such individuals have been visiting the country for many cricket series in the past. I hope we can get to the bottom of this situation."

An official of the Chittagong franchise, requesting anonymity, has told ESPNcricinfo that Sajid had been found talking to some of their foreign players during the tournament, eliciting suspicion after sitting directly on top of the players' dugout and dressing room during the matches held in Mirpur.

The incident occurs just over two weeks after Dhaka Gladiators captain Mashrafe Mortaza reported to his franchise that he had been approached by a fellow cricketer regarding potential spot-fixing during the BPL. The BCB has formed a four-member committee to inquire into the allegation.
