Virat Kohli On top with Un beatable 133Runs
Kohli masterclass keeps India alive
India showed plenty of spunk in their response to an imposing Sri Lankan score, a task made all the more difficult by the pressure of having to scale it down in 40 overs to retain hope of qualifying for the tournament finals. They, however, showed little sign of that pressure, and the openers, especially, batted uninhibitedly before Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir continued the fight, scoring fluently, keeping India's required rate to an achievable limit and preserving their wickets to keep Sri Lanka on their toes after their dominating performance with the bat.
An explosive opening, something India have been deprived of this series, was the need of the hour in a crunch encounter, and they got it with Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar stepping up. There was a power failure at the Bellerieve Oval in Hobart and the lights were out in one of the floodlight towers but Match Referee Chris Broad allowed the game to continue in the hope that the problem would be rectified during the course of the chase - not all lights were required at the time the chase began.
Sehwag, out of form this series, began the onslaught, carting Nuwan Kulasekara and Lasith Malinga over the in-field on the leg side. Tendulkar was equally aggressive, merciless against any available scoring opportunity - he made room to slash Kulasekara through point before creaming him through cover the same over.
Malinga bore the brunt of the early attack, Sehwag dispatching a short ball into the deep square leg grass bank in an over that fetched 15 but soon perished, mistiming an attempted pull off Farveez Maharoof to offer a catch to Tillakaratne Dilshan at mid-on.
Gambhir didn't take too long to get going, steering Kulasekara through point off his third ball before punching him through midwicket for another four. Tendulkar was threatening, lofting Malinga over mid-on but walked too far across the next ball to be trapped in front while attempting a glance. It might end up being his last innings in Australia, though Kohli and Gambhir kept trying their best to ensure that India's chances remained intact by not letting the momentum slip.
He picked off runs at ease through his favourite midwicket region, whipping the ball off his pads with ease and despite a boundary drought lasting 35 balls, keeping the runs coming through some swift running between the wickets and putting pressure on the outfielders. He broke that drought through an imperious drive off Thisara Perara past extra cover and later launched Angelo Mathews over the wide long-off boundary. At the halfway stage in the chase, the pair had notched up half-centuries and with ten Powerplay overs still remaining in the innings, gave India a fighting chance at qualification that, at one point, seemed improbable.
COngratulation INDIA FOR WINNING , And Kohli we love you , Nice Batting .....
