India vs Pakistan match at ICC Cricket World Cup is a viewers delight. And what better than a One Day International (ODI) match between India and Pakistan on a Sunday? India take on Pakistan in yet another encounter on February 15, the sixth meet at ICC WORLD CUP is tipped-off to be yet another match going down the wire. India have always had an upper-hand over their neighbours Pakistan in these matches, as the Men In Blue have won all the five matches spread across five World Cups.
The first victory against Pakistan came in 1992 World Cup when the Indian team was led by young Mohammad Azharuddin. In 1996 World Cup, Ind vs Pak is well remembered for the famous Venkatesh Prasad vs Aamir Sohail tussle which saw India pick up a tense win in the end. In subsequent World Cup in 1999 it was all Venkatesh Prasad’s show and the Pakistani side could not manage a win. During the 2003 World Cup, it was Sachin Tendulkar’s blistering 98 Pakistan which took India home. In the 2011 World Cup too, it was again Tendulkar’s class and Raina’s calibre which saw India overcome a formidable Pakistan side.
With a strong track record in their armour, India start as favourites to win World Cup 2015 match against Pakistan too. However, this time the stars don’t back India much as there are many factors which could make Pakistan win finally in ICC World Cup tourney. #WeWontGiveItBack is the latest trend on social media, but this time when India take Pakistan head-on, there’s a lot to worry for the ‘Men In Blue’. We take a look at some of the factors which would make India pee in their pants before they take field on February 15.
1. Sachin Tendulkar
It may sound a cliché for an Indian fan to hear that India will lose the match if there is no Sachin Tendulkar. Well, it has not been the case always but as far as India vs Pakistan matches in World Cup are considered, the Master Blaster has left an imprint which will be too tough for the young Indian team to repeat. Of the five matches Tendulkar has played against Pakistan in a CWC, he has walked away with Man of the Match awards in three times. With such an impeccable record out of the team, it is nearly impossible for the young lot to fill the shoes of SACHIN TENDULKAR!
2. Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan
It is not a hidden fact that Indians are vulnerable against an all-out left arm pace attack. With Wahab Riaz tormenting the Indians in the last World Cup 2011 semi-final, the pitches in Australia will only better his attack. Another dart in India’s back will be gigantic left-armer Mohammad Irfan. With conditions in Australia offering extra bounce, it is likely to see the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma dancing to the tunes of the deadly-left armers.
3. Brittle Middle-Order Line-Up
The Indian side at any previous World Cup editions hadn’t had such brittle middle-order line-up as much as in this World Cup. Barring Ajinkya Rahane, with players like Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayadu, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni in the middle-order haven’t clicked in the recently concluded Mid-Carton Tri-Series in Australia. If the top order fails, which is most likely to happen, the middle-order isn’t strong enough to stem the flow of wickets, which will cost dearly against Pakistan, which are touted to make in roads out of the blue.
4. Lack of quality pace attack
Barring Umesh Yadav the Indian bowling attack is all about medium pace with no other threaten to bowl quicker. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, and Mohit Sharma are all ‘Ace of Spades’ on their given days, but none of them has managed to tilt the match in India’s favour working in tandem. The lack of quality pace attack is one thing that Pakistan can thrive on to rake up a big score or chase it down easily.
5. Lack of form
In whatever gravity, if one says that India has one of the strongest sides of World Cup 2015 on paper, the recent performances in Australia has portrayed an absolute different tell-o-tale. India lost the Test series to Australia and had a winless Tri-Series which had England as the third side. The warm-up match against Australia didn’t work in favour of India as they were looking hapless against a strong Aussie side. India did manage to win their match against Afghanistan. But Afghanistan, really?
6. India being India
It is worldly known that even if India is in a winning position playing an ODI match, it hasn’t won the match until it is completed. Given the matter of fact, India’s past record of crumbling under pressure and losing wickets in a flurry has been India’s forte. With an electrifying evening awaiting both India and Pakistan, it is tough to decide will India come over their self-created ‘India being India’ tag!
India will play against Pakistan on February 15 at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide at 09.00 am (IST).
